On Tour

We’ve thrown today’s blog over to Rachel Caplan, who runs the ever-popular Boutique by Susan Caplan. She’s been on tour with her boyf’s band (Well Jel) and kept us a little road diary chronicling her stylish steps.

In between heading up the diffusion line at Susan Caplan, designing and modeling I throw in the odd adventure when my boyfriend and his band are in town. So when Funeral Party's headline tour around the UK started in May it meant it was time to pack the 1980s leather holdall, get out the Roladex to forewarn my lovely suppliers across the country and take Boutique By Susan Caplan on the road.

19.05.2011: Our city hop began in the legendary King Tuts of Glasgow. As a Glaswegian, this city is where my fashion story began. A city full of inspiration and home to my very first buying experience, this was definitely a nostalgic place to start.

20.05.2011: Next stop was Edinburgh, a beautiful city with a dark history so exploring the cobbled streets with the 1970s Pewter Tone Spiked Cuff securely on my wrist definitely felt appropriate. Some pieces in the collection are evidently influenced by the city’s gothic architecture and past.

21.05.2011: The next day was their show for Liverpool Sound City Festival. This meant 100s of bands wandering the streets of Liverpool. A scene I can't say I have seen before. The festival vibe influenced my 1970s style, a Cos maxi dress and a floral headband with the 1970s Silver Tone Fringe Pendant completed the look.

24.05.2011: We came back to London for the bands in-store performance at Gola and my favourite show to date at Heaven. The London stop-over meant I could have a quick catch up in the office and do my band duties (wash the boys clothes).

01.06.2011: There's never enough time to breath because off we trotted for more dates across the country before ending their tour with an amazing performance in Manchester. This ensured I touched down in London just in time for the launch of Amber Atherton’s new collection at Sketch last week which started off the mayhem to London Jewellery Week. The event meant it was time to wear my Kate Moss for Topshop playsuit and team it with the 1970s Brass Spiral Necklace as a headband.

So as I write I am in what would be 'the calm before the storm' - I'm back to Boutique by Susan Caplan from the comfort of the office. The storm that is 'festival season' is just around the corner and kicking it off for me is Wireless...I'm thinking my Doc Martens, leather trousers and the 1970s Chainmail Vest should do the trick.
