Daddy Cool!

With Dad’s day coming up on Sunday, we decided to give a grand ol’ style salute to our fashionable fathers by making them the street-style stars for a change. We asked our Marketplace boutiques to send in their favourite family snaps, and share why they LOVE their Dad’s style.

Happy Fathers Day!

P.s Some of the Dad’s shared their thoughts on what they think of ‘Style today’ – so sit up straight and listen to your elders!

We Love Vintage

“My Grandad lived and breathed the fashion industry, directing and photographing fashion shows from London to the Cote d'azur. He was always super stylish and immaculately dressed...stepping up onto his own Cessna plane, if you glance very quickly and squint your eyes it could be James Bond! I may be a little biased, but at look at these photos with fondness and am inspired to remain glamorous no matter what my age!” – Sam, We Love Vintage!

Nancy Dee

“I love my Dad’s style because he was born to rock a moustache and has kept it in a similar shape since the seventies. My Mum had a big crush on Timothy Dalton when he sported a moustache, and I think my dad has been working that look ever since. He shaved it off for retirement a few years ago hoping it would make him look younger, but he always looked as if he was (literally) missing something. So he’s now grown a new one, and despite it now being a little more salt and pepper than thick bushy brown, it will always be his style statement” – Tamsin, Nancy Dee Boutique.

“Men’s style is timeless – and very easy – we can bring out the same tux every few years and still look as stylish as James Bond (that’s assuming it still fits!)” – Brian (Tamsin’s Dad!)

The Cherry Closet

“This is my Granddad in the 1950's. He was a royal engineer, and fought in the second world war - and up until he died in his 80's he walked upright and shoulders back as if were still a proud soldier! He wore a tie every day of his life - something I think is pretty cool, smart and what vintage inspired men should do today! Its a all about a better dressed Britain!” – Nicki Grainger, The Cherry Closet

So Serene

“I love these pictures - the rimmed specs, tailored top and narrow trousers right down to the cut of his hair and the way he's walking in the street shot - straight out of Italian Vogue no? Not sure if he was going for the Buddy Holly or John Lennon look at the time but either way he totally pulls it off. Effortless style in a wonderful era” – Loretta, So Serene Boutique.

''This is a pick of my Dad in 1971. My old man has always retained an independence from fashion, which was a major influence in setting up an independent fashion label!'' – Gerry, Plane Clothing.

'The more times your 3 girls turn up wearing your 30 year old leather jacket or your Levis denim jacket the easier it is to understand today's fashion' – Tony (Rachel’s Dad!)

Rock N’ Rose

Here's my Dad rocking out in the early 80's (he's on the far right with the Gibson Explorer and the amazing gold spandex!). Dad had amazing style back then (unfortunately not so much now!). I'd kill to get my hands on some of his old band tees and vintage watches. The matching colour pop spandex is also an instant hit...!” - Emily, Rock N’ Rose

"Style ain't what it used to be... fortunately." – Emily’s Dad.

Gabriella Vintage

This is our mother and father in the early 80s at a uni party. Dads doing what they do best and making you cringe. Although, we are cringing a little when we look at it, we cant help but love the elaborate styles of the 80s. We’re also impressed because we think good ole mama is looking pretty fly!” – Jordan and Gabriella, from Gabriella Vintage.

“The second pic we both love, it's my great grandfather and grandfather tweeding it up with a family friend and his two sons. Gabriella is obsessed with my grandparents fashion, she adores the clean cut looks of these eras and that everyone looked so damn smart. As kids we never understood why Papa was thinking we were little scruffs with our insanely long curly hair (yes both Gabs and me...embarrassing), dungarees and ridiculously bright tees but looking back we can see why. My grandfather wasn't a flashy guy, he knew fashion, he liked to look smart and we think he did it oh so well. I half wish we could go back to then and every guy was wandering around in suits with women in fabulous dresses on their arms” – Jordan and Gabriella, from Gabriella Vintage.

“Here's a pic from my Mum and Dad's wedding in 1968-my Dad is the dude with the huge sideburns and handle-bar moustache! He was only 24 years old here-my Mum is also looking dead groovy in her vintage Jaegar coat!

My Dad was a huge fan of big hair and even bigger flares in the 60's and 70's and was one of the original cool St Martin's art crowd where he studied furniture design. He still rocks it now by heading out to see bands like The Rolling Stones, even though he's in his sixties!” – Hannah, French Kiss Vintage.
