Vintage at Southbank Centre 2011!

We spent a ridiculously joyful day on Friday exploring the Vintage at Southbank Centre festival & meeting many of our boutiques who were selling in the Vintage market that ran alongside the main event.

FYI – it was the *best* vintage market team marketplace has EVER been to, so a big sarcastic thanks to the organisers of the festival for ushering me way over my overdraft in order to purchase a beautiful lace dress that in retrospect, without the rose tinted glasses of the sunny Southbank, looks scarily like a wedding dress. In fact, it might BE a ‘60s wedding dress.*

*Note to self – wear it to next date-night for a laff. With a veil.

If you love a bit of retro, this was your festival (northern) soul mate. Each floor of the Royal Festival Hall had been decked out to represent different era’s – and the theming was so darn immaculate I swear I saw the Fonz. We reckoned about 90% of the festival goers had made the effort to don their best vintage garb, and as everyone sashayed about, the whole Royal Festival Hall became a bit of a ‘You look AMAZING, No YOU look AMAZING’ love fest. This proved a really lovely antidote to the summers usual music-festival hipster-off’s .

Take a scroll down our photos from the day to see our favourite hawt vintage looks and an inside peek at the beautifully done-up venue. A big thanks to the ladies from the Southbank Centre and the gracious MasterCard mavens who made us very welcome and helped to arrange the tickets we gave away for our Vintage VIP Winners. Speaking of which, remember Samira, our cute-as-a-button ‘60s winner? Well, we sent her along on the Saturday, so check back soon for a few of her snaps.

This Hawaiian printed, be-head scarfed lady made a stylish change from the many (very pretty) fifties dresses.

…and a close up of her amazing ‘do plus flower. Hair flowers, done seventies style, are going to be a key party look for Adubz ‘11 don’t ya know. Bianca Jagger style.

You probably don’t have a balcony like this though do you? And if you do, Hi! Call me!

P.s about 10 minutes after this photo was taken, this whole group of people had a dance party to a Sister Sledge megamix. It was beautiful.

You could tell who was festival-bound a mile off. Because they looked AMAZING.

Inside the festival, the place was packed with different era-themed dance floors and bars, and in-between each level things got all kinds of crafty. We took a look at the ladies making ‘fabulous fascinators’ who all seemed to be making pretty top notch creations.

This was a bar. A BAR. Probably a good thing its only temporary, for I would otherwise spend all my pennies on Milkshakes and repeatedly playing ‘Ba-Ba-Ba-BarBarbarannnnnnn’.

You probably don’t need me to tell you that this is where the photo taking ended and the dancing began. A cracking day had by all, roll on next year.

Oh yeah, the location wasn't bad either.
