The sketch that started it all!

You can’t MOVE for new design talent in Marketplace these days. It’s pretty much out of control. We love getting to know the people behind the pieces, so we asked our emerging designers to send through one of their original sketches for an item that’s now available on Marketplace. Charlotte Haggerty

“The dress is called 'Clive The Lion' and is part of a collection inspired by the Victorian Circus and Freak Show. I found an image of a classic, suited, Victorian Gent posing very seriously for the camera, nonchalant to the fact he is surrounded on all sides by about 10 lions! Who were, surprisingly, also taking the art of Victorian portraiture very seriously”.

"The cropped vest came about from all the small coloured pieces of jersey found in abundance in the Goodone studio, that we couldn't help but start to piece together in as many fun combinations as we could. It too draws upon a sports vibe and sits well with it's jersey trouser counterpart, but would work well with any high-waist."

“The Tabitha Jaggy print dress has to be my favourite. Its easy to wear, quirky and i love the scratchiness of the print. My inspiration taken from children's scribbles and how their scribbles tend to be all over the place these marks are more carefully placed on the body. I love working with my recognizable candy colours but i wanted to play with black and white to show the scribble can be grown up and elegant”.

“The Snookums playsuit is our favourite piece from this collection because it sums up exactly the feeling we were going for back when the collection was still just ideas on a moodboard. It's super cute and reminiscent of childhood, summer days spent playing in sandpits and splashing in paddling pools, sticker books and colouring-in, and being mischievous and getting away with it! It reminds us that even though we're grown ups now we don't have to act it ALL the time”.

The floral linen lining is an original vintage print found on my travels but limits these dresses to only two made making them that little more exciting. I love wearing my full mini dresses dressed down with old cardis and boots, the bodices are really fitted with boning so you feel pretty glam however they are worn”.

The idea came from a coat my boyfriends mum Mary was getting rid of a few years ago. It was love at first sight, a seventies blazer in tapestry with great puff shoulders. I wore it to death, but luckily Michael and I decided to bring it back to life with a few added touches. We developed the cut but kept the idea of the puff shoulders. We added lining and pockets and there was born our Mary coat.”

The idea behind the Warrior body is that it's like the under-garment for a suit of armour, but it still gives that sense of power as a piece worn alone. Like most things i do it's a second skin”
